Site outage und other stuff
October 29, 2007 on 9:56 pm | In News | 10 CommentsDear iTLU users,
you probably noticed the download problems in the last few weeks and the 24h outage of the site yesterday. The cause of these problems was my hosting provider, who locked me out of some directories and told me, that I’m using to many ressources on their systems. I was kind of surprised, as iTLU does not generate much more than 5000 hits per day, which is not was I’d call "excessive usage". My hoster provided very good services in the past, so I’m not sure what happened there. As a conclusion, I don’t know how long I may continue to run this website, as I’m not willed to pay high hosting fees for an old hobby project. Maybe I’ll put a donate button on the page, as some of you already offered donations for the tool. But I’ll only do that, if I don’t find another solution.
So, what’s up with iTLU at the moment? I’ve never really finished iTLU2, because I don’t use it myself anymore. I’m not sure if i’ll ever continue, sorry
On the other hand, a friend of mine and I started with a technical prototype for an iTunes sync application that runs on both Windows and Mac. It may last as a proof of concept, but it might also be a successor of iTLU, who knows!
There are some issues in iTLU1, so I might release a new build somewhen. The main two problems are:
- iTunes events are lost under Windows Vista. To resolve this issue, you have to disable User Account Control.
- iTLU crashes if you try to sync media files that iTunes does not support. To resolve this issue, only add extensions that can be added to iTunes without conversion (like .mp3 work, but .wav does not).
This is it, sorry again for the outage!
